RISD Mascot: Meet Scrotie
Go Balls! The Balls are actually Rhode Island School of Design’s basketball team, while here, Scrotie appears to be cheering for ice hockey. The hockey team? The Nads, of course. Who even knew they had sports at art schools?
More on Scrotie here

My daughter went to RISD. We went to a Nads hocky game. It was a blast (and I’m not even into sports) Do they have sports at Art schools? They do but, the mascot ought to let you know the attitude toward the games. GO-NADS!!!!!

I think this is just stupid. They have to be so flamboyant about their views on sports that have to make a penis mascot. What if a kid went to a game or someone who wasn’t comftorble with that or their daughter seeing that. What the fuck like it just makes them look ignorant, if they don’t care so much about sports then why do they put so much money and time in showing off their mascots and takeing time out of their lives to make tshirt. I know I don’t spend that much tim on something I don’t give a fuck about.

Son, let me explain. Nobody with half a brain actually cares if their son or daughter sees a penis costume. In the real world we know penises exist and that they are perfectly normal and natural. Your children aren’t “uncomfortable” with that. You are. You might be a prig. The folks over at RISD, most likely, don’t care about sports. Only idiots do. They do them for the original reason: games=fun. Simple enough. They’re having a bit o’the old fun.

WHAT! a kid never saw a penis before? And, if someone is not comfortable with it, let them leave. And as to looking ignorant…..”What the fuck” is a very sophisticated and learned phrase? If you “dont’ give a fuck” about the subject why do you spend time righting a post?

i go to the art institute, and i really wish we had sports. not that i really care all that much, but it would be kind of fun. but leave it to RISD, the most prestigious art school in the country, to make a statement about how ridiculous people get over college sports. i love this. i actually came across it while researching the history of RISD for a paper i’m writing, and it was a great diversion from the drudgery of research.
GO NADS!!!!
STICK TOGETHER, BALLS!!!!

I wouldn’t get too flummoxed about the “prestige” of art schools if I were you. You should be laughing when you type that.

What fun that must have been.

I had the pleasure of seeing Scrotie born in 2001 outside of my apartment complex when I was a Junior at RISD. I was friends with the guy who made him.
The article fails to also mention that we had a womans soccer team called “The Jugs” and a Mens Soccer Team called “The Sacks”
The cheerleaders for the Nads are “The Jockstraps” (because they support the Nads) and the yearly Ice Hockey Game against Cooper is called “The Supportive Cup.”
And it’s entirely right… RISD does it because they don’t really take sports seriously… However we have GREAT team spirit!

Actually, this is the role athletics really deserve in academia.

One souvenir I have from my daughter’s time at RISD is a bumper sticker from the basketball team, The Balls, with their slogen, “When the heat is on, the Balls stick together.”
