Palin’s a Poet?
Here’s Julian Gough:
Here she is, in a work I have taken to calling “The Relevance of Africa.” (Not a single word or comma has been changed, but the line breaks are placed where they naturally fall.) In it, Palin blends the energy of free verse with the austerity of a classic 14-line sonnet.
It reads: “And the relevance to me /With that issue, /As we spoke /About Africa and some /Of the countries /There that were /Kind of the people succumbing /To the dictators /And the corruption /Of some collapsed governments /On the /Continent, /The relevance /Was Alaska’s.”
I think if we are to recognize Palin, we need to remember Miss Teen USA South Carolina, who created this riff, which I am taking the liberty of titling “I personally believe: to build up our future”
I personally believe that
US Americans are unable to do so
because some people out there in our nation
don’t have maps
and I believe that our education
such as South Africa
and the Iraq,
everywhere like
such as
and I believe that they should
our education over here in the US
should help the US or
should help South Africa
it should help the Iraq and
the Asian countries
so we will be able to build up our future.
And what about this from the famous poet G.W. Bush:
They know our position,
the world knows our position and
I clarified it at the United Nations
Wolf my judgement is
You have to take everybody’s word
seriously in this world. Again
you can’t just hope for the best.
And here we were thinking that these people were just incoherent dodo heads, when it turns out they were speaking pure poetry. Glad that got cleared up.

Miss Teen South Carolina answered that question badly, but she’s still got her looks to fall back on…
